[Lizzy] *standing in front of the apartment door and taking a deep breath before knocking twice and poking her head in* Joey? Are you home? *walking in and shutting the door behind her, going to knock on Joey's bedroom door* Hey Joe, you in here?
[Joey] *laying her head on Luke's chest and then sighing* Your shag mate is here. Guess that means we are done hanging out? *turning off the TV and rolling over away from the door*
[Lucas] Don't be like that! She said Joe, I'm not Joe. *kissing her on the head* You are! *turning to the door* We are in here Lizzy, come on in.
[Lizzy] *walking into the room and smiling* Hey! I didn't expect you to be home Luke, I thought you had practice this morning. *to Joey* Do you have any plans today?
[Lucas] *looking at the clock* I do have practice, I just promised Joey that we'd hang out some this morning. Nate knows I will be a few minutes late. *standing up and looking at Joey who is still facing away from them* I love you kiddo, I will be back later and we can hang out some more. * walking around and kissing her on the cheek, then hugging Lizzy as he heads out of the room* Bye girls.
[Joey] I think I am going to see Evan today. I know Andy is working, and the guys have practice.
[Lizzy] *frowning slightly and sitting on a chair* Oh. Ok, I guess. Only, we haven't spent much time together outside of class lately and I was kind of hoping I could take you to lunch.
[Joey] *spinning around and looking at her* Yeah because you have been too busy shagging Luke behind my back!
[Lizzy] *looking ashamed, lowering her head and allowing the curtain of red to fall on either side of her face* Yeah, that's one of the things I wanted to talk to you about. *looking up sadly* I'm sorry I didn't talk to you sooner.
[Joey] I thought we were closer than that Lizzy. I don't care who you are shagging, but the fact that you couldn't be honest with me. That hurts. *looking down and playing with the blanket* I'd tell you if I had sex because that is what friends do. They make time for each other and talk about stuff.
[Lizzy] It's not that I didn't want to tell you. I didn't tell anyone. Heck, I barely believed it myself. It just kind of happened, and it's all so tied into my hurt over Tyler, and his over Jonnie that it just felt like something we should keep to ourselves for awhile. Plus, hiding it from everyone made it a little more, I don't know, exciting I guess. But I came up here today to tell you, because you're my friend and I didn't want to keep hiding anything from you.
jax23j: Luke told me. Well I actually figured it out but he confirmed it. I am happy for you two, shag all you want. He's hot and you are pretty. I see why you two like each other. *looking at her and shifting her self in the bed* Now I am back to being a virgin alone. Yay me. *rolling her eyes before laying back down and covering herself with the blanket* Poor Joey can't handle the truth, poor Joey doesn't need to know, poor Joey. God I'm so sick of being poor little Joey!
[Lizzy] *getting up and sitting on the bed next to Joey* That's not why I didn't tell you. I didn't tell anyone, I swear, not even Andy until he questioned me about it last night. Apparently we weren't being as circumspect as I thought we were. *giving a little giggle* Come on, you've got to admit it's funny. We thought we were hiding from everyone, and EVERYONE figured out. I wouldn't be surprised if Nate and Sky knew too. I'm sorry you feel alone now though.
[Joey] Nate knew. I am sure he knew when it started. Luke tells him everything. *uncovering her face* It is kind of funny. Cause we really thought you two were watching an awful lot of movies together. *her smile fading* I am used to being alone on alot of things. Don't worry about me, I am tough.
[Lizzy] Hey, none of that. All it means is that you're better than the rest of us who can't control ourselves. *laughing and poking Joey in the side* Alright Snow White, want to come eat with your poor little trollop friend?
[Joey] *rolling her eyes* I guess, where are we going? *getting out of her bed and getting an outfit together*
[Lizzy] God anything but the diner. I'm so sick of smelling like chips and hamburgers. There's that new crepe place that opened up. I've been wanting to check them out, but Andy isn't having any of it. Calls crepes "chick food". *laughing*
[Joey] *smiling* They are popular back home, sounds good. Just let me shower real quick and I will be right out. There is a movie in the dvd player, or cable if you want to watch tv. I just need like 10 minutes.
[Lizzy] No worries. *going into the living room Lizzy pulls a book and her iPod out of her purse. She starts up the music and reads while waiting for Joey to get ready*
[Joey] *showering then getting ready quicker than normal she walks out of the bathroom and into her bedroom to brush her hair and grabbing her sweater before texting Andy* ~ Heading out with Lizzy for lunch. Call me on your break. Love you. ~ *smiling as the text sends, then walking out to the living room and looking at Lizzy* I am ready when you are.
[Lizzy] Don't you look pretty. *smiling as they walk out of the door to the elevator* So how are things with you and Andy? I saw that the strawberry shortcake seems to have fallen hard for you, how's he handling the competition?
[Joey] *giggling* Well, the strawberry shortcake and I do have a grand love affair. Andy and I will be okay, I think. I worry from time to time that he will get bored and leave, but he seems to be in it for the long haul. That says alot about him. He gets mad about Evan, but just kind of lets it go. Because, *looks at her a minute* well I don't know why.
[Lizzy] Because he loves you, and because Evan is important to you.
[Joey] He does love me. They both do, I think that is why its so difficult. But, I won't give up my friend for my man. No matter which way that happened to turn out. *smiling at her with a mischievous grin* So Luke? Is that why you were kind of iffy with Carrie?
[Lizzy] God! Did everyone see that? *blushing* Luke and I aren't like that. I don't think anyway. But I mean what kind of girl hits on a guy when someone else already said they were crushing on him? *shaking her head* Someone needs to teach her how impolite that is. *walking into the restaurant and asking to be seated in a quiet area. Fortunately the restaurant is mostly empty so they get seated right away, and Lizzy continues like she hadn't stopped talking* What she thinks just cause she's pretty, and blonde and athletic that she's better than me? Goodness!
[Joey] *shaking her head* Carrie is just kind of odd, but not in a bad way. Conor and Mia introduced us because she doesn't have any friends. I like her, but she takes a bit of getting used to. *smiling at Lizzy and looking at her for a minute before talking* Luke said you are pretty much into keeping it a fun thing, but I think you like him.
[Lizzy] I don't know about that. Really *at Joey's doubtful look* I don't know! I just know I like spending time with him. And what we've been doing is a lot of fun. But he doesn't want anything more right now, and we're both having fun. He ... doesn't want anything more does he? Did he say something to you? Why did he mention that I wanted to keep it at just fun, that was both of us not just me. *realizing she's rambling* Ok, maybe I like him a little. Dangit. Andy warned me about this just last night.
[Joey] *giggling* I think you both need to talk about it. Cause I mean I am not expert, at all, but once you start sleeping with someone feelings creep in and overcome you without your permission. Especially since he and Carrie are going to some sport thing. You know Luke and sports, he will invite her to more and more stuff, and she openly flirted with him. I just don't think he paid any attention to her.
[Lizzy] How could he not have paid any attention to her? Did you see her? In my wildest dreams I look like that.
[Joey] Luke likes girlie girls, you've seen Jonnie. I don't know though, Luke surprises me sometimes. He clearly enjoys what you two have right now. Says sometimes its several times a day. He was kidding right?
[Lizzy] *blushing* No. He wasn't kidding. I mean, can I just tell you Joey, *leaning in and whispering* he's really good at it. Sex I mean...*looking up when the waitress clears her throat, she and Joey both order and then when the waitress leaves they look at each other and start laughing*
[Joey] *wiping her tears away from laughing so hard* I guess we should leave her a nice tip, since she has to put up with our nonsense today. *smiling* Okay, Luke is good in bed, thanks for that, but I don't care. I think it might even gross me out a bit. *shuddering then giggling* Yeah, it grosses me out big time.
[Lizzy] *catching her breath* I haven't laughed that hard in weeks. Ok, no details. Since it grosses you out and all. So tell me about Andy then. I know you're not doing the sex thing. That actually surprises me, about him I mean. I didn't think he was capable of going this long without it. *still giggling* But he's got to be a great kisser right?
[Joey] *looking at her and then looking down* Yeah, he's a great kisser. He has soft lips and when he kisses me I feel tingles all over. *looking back up at her with sad eyes* I told him if he needed it elsewhere he just had to tell me. I can't force him to go without it, because I don't know if I will be ready any time soon.
[Lizzy] *shaking her head* He wouldn't do that to you. He doesn't want anyone else but you, I've never seen him so focused. *looking at her and taking her hand* Can I ask you what happened? What Nate was talking about when he decided to attack Andy. *looking angry* What right he thinks he has to talk about your boyfriend like that I don't know, but I didn't like the things he was saying at all.
[Joey] You don't understand. *frowning* I will tell you if you promise not to judge me. And, if you will see where Nate is coming from. You don't have to like him, but you have to understand.
[Lizzy] You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, I don't want to pry. I simply don't believe there's any excuse for him to be so mean.
[Joey] *taking a deep breath and looking at her before retelling her horrible secret, one that fills her with fear and keeps the nightmares close. telling her every detail as she had told Andy, not that long ago* So, that is why Nate is very protective with me. Luke too. They almost feel like its their job. And it's going to get worse, because they are up for a parole hearing in a few weeks. We are going to go appeal, but Nate is worried. *shaking her head* I am just trying not to think about it.
[Lizzy] Oh. *covering her mouth with one hand and looking at Joey, almost crying* ok, I suppose I can understand why now. No wonder Andy was telling me not to be mad at Nate. That's bloody awful.
[Joey] Yeah, and don't tell Andy about the appeal, I he doesn't know yet. I know he will want to be there or be supportive and I just really don't want to think about it. Even my daddy's scared they are going to get out. Hopefully Julie's parents are there to help us plead our case. People like that just can't be out of prison. It's just not safe.
[Lizzy] I won't tell him, but promise me you will. *thanking the waitress as she delivers their food* You're right, he'll want to be there with you. Oh thank goodness, food. I'm starving! *starting to eat* When's Tyler getting back? I heard he wanted to open the restaurant by Valentine's. He was talking to Andy on the phone about making some special Valentine's desserts.
[Joey] *smiling wide* They called me the other day, well Ty did. They will be back in a week or so. Jonnie is starting to show and is feeling like she needs to be home. Plus I am sure she will have healer appointments coming up. And Ty, he misses his family. And Luke. He talked my ear off about his uncle Luke. I think he was disappointed Luke wasn't home. I can't wait for him to get back. I miss Jonnie and Tyler and all, but Ty is my world.
[Lizzy] *frowning a little* I hope they had a good time. I wouldn't know, he hasn't called me. *looking at Joey* I know he's married now, and he shouldn't be calling me or whatever, but it hurts. He used to call me at least once a week when he was on the road. Just to say hi and see how things were going and stuff.
[Joey] I think once he gets home and you two can chat it will all work out. He is hiring us in his restaurant, so I mean its not like you two won't be friends. I just think he needed to focus on and Ty. According to Ty they are happy, and that's all you wanted for him. I know that, because that is all Luke wanted for JonnieJonnie. *smiling* Tyler is gonna die when he finds out Andy is capable of loving someone besides himself.
[Lizzy] *laughing and almost snorting her water through her nose* Lord Joey, warn a girl would you? Yeah, you're right he's gonna go into complete shock. He used to worry about how much time I spent with Andy. But it's never been like that with us. *shrugging* I am happy for him, and I'm thrilled he's happy with Jonnie and Ty, but I do miss my friend.
[Joey] I know you miss him. If he is still being distant when he gets home, I will beat him up for you. Because, well, I can. *giggling then looking at Lizzy* So it's never been like that with you and Andy? Not ever? I liked Luke for a bit, mostly because Jonnie was always talking about how great he was. Then when they split up and he was devastated I kissed him. But, it was gross. He pushed me away and scolded me. It's never been weird, but I know the little mini crush I had on him died and him being my brother was born. Weird right?
[Lizzy] No, not weird. That makes perfect sense. I can understand why you would have a crush on him. It's funny that he pushed you away, because I think he's only ever seen you as a sister. That's the same way Andy is with me. And no, it's never been like that with Andy and me. I even asked him why not. He said he thought of my like a sister, and too sweet to be spoiled for amusement. *pretending to pout* What about my amusement huh? someone'sOk, kidding, kidding. Oh, gosh, we can't tell Tyler about Luke. He'll flip. He thought I was gonna wait til I got married.
[Joey] Tyler is going to think he did it to be spiteful, but I know Luke isn't that guy. That is one thing I can say about Luke, he doesn't go around hurting people on purpose. Which is why he wasn't too fond of Andy in the beginning either. Poor Andy, he gave himself a bad reputation, without even realizing what he was doing. Oh well, can't change the past, so why worry about that right? *sliding her plate away* Those were good.
[Lizzy] I don't know if he'll think that. Ok, he probably will, but I know it's not true, and that's what mat-*stopping and getting her cell phone out of her bag when she hears it start to play Holly Jolly Christmas* Hey Daddy. Just having lunch with Joey. You're doing what? *laughing* Sure, we'll be right there. *she hangs up the phone* Come on, you get to meet Daddy.
[Joey] *smiling nervously* Okay? Where are we going, and will it be fun?
[Lizzy] Yes, with my dad it always is. He never really grew up. Other than that, it's a surprise. *taking Joey's hand after paying the check and running out of the restaurant hailing a cab. She gives them directions and minutes later they pull up to a fancy apartment building* Let's go. *she pulls Joey out of the taxi and into the building* Hey Robert *she greets the doorman* I have gifts for your kids at my house, I didn't bring them because I didn't know this was today. *sighing* What am I going to do with that man? *waving and going into the elevator, pressing the penthouse button* Um ... have I told you that my dad is quite wealthy? He doesn't have a ruddy castle, but he's ... comfortable *she says shyly as the elevator rises*
[Joey] *following her and smiling* Nice place. *looking around as Lizzy drags her behind her* Slow down Lizzy, you are pulling my arm out of the socket. I'd hate to tell Andy he can't cuddle me because you hurt my arm. *laughing as she tries to keep up*
[Lizzy] *getting to the door of his apartment she looks at Joey* Ok, *jumping with excitement* close your eyes. *she waits until Joey closes them, laughing, then opens the door and leads her in. She takes Joey by the shoulders pointing her into the front room* Ok, open up. *when Joey opens her eyes she is looking at a winter wonderland, snow actually falling in the apartment, faux ice crystals hanging from everything, and a large throne in the center of the room with Santa Clause sitting on it. Mrs. Claus is standing next to the throne as dozens of kids line up. Behind and to the left of Santa is a huge, elaborately decorated tree, with piles of presents under it. After each child is done with Santa they go to the tree and the tall dark haired man standing there hands them a present. *
[Joey] *looking around eyes wide smiling and spinning in the snow laughing as she catches it in her hand* This is absolutely amazing! *trying to refrain from falling on the floor to make a snow angel she stands there in awe and excitement*
[Rick] Lizzy! *waving from the tree* Come on, let me meet your friend and then get in line to sit with Santa and get your pictures taken.
[Lizzy] *grinning widely and walking with Joey through the room* He does this every Christmas. *pointing at Mrs. Claus* That's gran, and her boyfriend. *walking over to her dad, who is dressed like an elf* Daddy, this is Joey Campbell, my very best girlfriend. Joey, this is my dad, you can call him Rick, everyone does. *hugging her dad* It seems to be going well this year.
[Joey] *smiling and shaking his hand, then hugging him* Hi Rick! *excitement bubbling out of her as she looks around and goes and gets in the santa line* Come on Lizzy! Come do this too. *waving her hand at her and turning to play with the children in line*
[Lizzy] *hugging her dad and kissing his cheek* Ok, time to go be a kid with Joey. Thanks Daddy! *running off to get into line and slipping in the fake snow falling on her bottom and sending a blizzard up around her. She's laughing hard when she makes it to Joey in line and waves to a few of the kids she knows*
[Joey] *laughing at Lizzy as she stands beside her* You okay? I am sure Luke will kiss it better if you need him to. *laughing even harder as both their faces turn bright red. seeing the kids laughing and playing she picks up a little guy, and frowns* He's so skinny. *smiling when he snuggles up to her* But I like him!
[Lizzy] *picking up the little girl who was standing next to the boy* That's Alex, and this is Amanda. They're twins. And you've gotten SO TALL in the last year! *hugging the little girl and then putting her down as the line moves forward* Are you still at St Mary's Alex? *when he nods she kisses his forehead* Well I spoke to Santa last week and I happen to know he has a lovely gift for you this year.
[Joey] *holding him as he plays with her hair and leaning over to whisper* St. Mary's? Isn't that for orphans? *turning back and smiling as the little boy plays with her necklace, opening it to see a picture of her and Alec when she was a baby* That's me when I was a little baby, I look silly don't I? *smiling at the little boy and turning him to watch the kids sit with Santa*
[Lizzy] *nodding and speaking quietly* Most of these kids are from various group homes, or they were recommended because of their need. Others have parents who work in the building. I've seen a lot of them since they were babies. Dad does four or five events for them all a year. I've missed them all this year, that's why he called. He said I simply wasn't allowed to miss Santa. *giggling*
[Joey] I am glad you came, and you brought me. *looking at Lizzy and smiling as little Alex put his head on her shoulder* My dad has been looking for a good cause to donate money to, since we no longer live in Cali, he doesn't want to keep supporting the places there. Maybe he can help donate funds. Not that they need it at all, but this is a good thing.
[Lizzy] We'll get them in touch. Maybe over at that pub your dad's always at. Has he ever decided to meet his phone girlfriend anyway?
[Joey] I think so, he is spending an awful lot of time over at the pub these days. And daddy isn't a drinker. He only has like one a night, if that. i think I need to go visit Simon myself. I bet he'd tell me. *giggling*
[Lizzy] We really do need to plan a night out there, that'll be grand. *waiting in line til they get to Santa* Ok you, go sit on his Lap and tell him what you want and get a picture. I'll do the same, and then we'll get a picture together ok.
[Joey] *bouncing up to Santa and sitting on his lap, chit chatting with him for a few, then leaning over to whisper in his ear and smiling widely before hugging him for her picture* Your turn Lizzy! *laughing as Lizzy walks up there and feeling a little hand take hers, looking down to see Alex she squeezes his hand and smiles*
[Lizzy] *jumping up onto Santa's lap and waving to her grandma* Hi Mrs. Claus! Hi Santa. I've been a very good girl this year. *giggling and chattering for a minute before calling Joey over to get their picture taken together. Then she takes Amanda, who's standing quietly watching* Come on kiddo, let's go see Santa's elf! *to Joey she mouths* Watch this. *they go to Rick and he looks at them* Alright kids, here you are. *he hands them each a gift with their name on it, and they open them. The kids both light up*
[Amanda] A Dollhouse! I just asked him for that! Wow! Santa really is magic isn't he Elf Rick?
[Rick] He certainly is Amanda, he certainly is.
[Alex] *opening his gift and seeing a Lego play set he smiles widely and sets it down to study the picture a minute before looking at Santa and smiling at him*
[Joey] Legos? I love legos. You want help with that? I can see about what I have to do to come visit you. We can work on this together if you'd like. *feeling her heart fill with love for this set she smiles* And you, do you have anyone to play with Amanda? I could come visit you too. You know, if you wanted me to. *looking at Santa and at Rick as she smiled*
[Amanda] You would? We never git visitors. Lizzy visits sometimes, but not in ever so long. You just talk to that lady over there *pointing* Don't mind my brother, he doesn't talk.
[Joey] *smiling at the little girl* I will do that. *getting up and going to the lady Amanda pointed out and chatting for a few before coming back and sitting down* So I have some good news, and some bad news. I can come visit, which is great news. But, I have to wait a few days because they are busy for a holidays. But, we can play now. I don't have anywhere else I'd rather be. *smiling and looking at Alex, patting his hair and looking into his little eyes that seem to be lit up* So, how about we go find a table and start sorting these legos.
[Alex] *smiling and picking up his box and running to the table to open it*
[Joey] *looking at Amanda* Come with us, I can play with both of you. *winking at Lizzy* She wants to play too, don't you Lizzy?
[Lizzy] Of course I do, give me just one minute. *watching as Joey and the kids go sit and play, and then wrapping her arm around her dad* Looks like you've found another elf for next year.
[Rick] Yeah, I don't want to hear it, you aren't wearing your costume. It's still in your room upstairs.
[Lizzy] Daddy. I am not putting that thing on again! I look ridiculous. Maybe I'll pick matching ones for me and Joey next year. *laughing* We're gonna go play now. When's the party starting?
[Rick] Caterers will be here at 6, if you want to bring anyone else have them here around 6:30. Now, you, go play with your friends. *laughing merrily as his daughter runs off to join Joey and the kids*
[Lizzy] Hey Amanda *sitting at the table* Let's get that dollhouse opened up. I bet there are even dollies in it! *smiling at Joey* Glad I kidnapped you. *blushing* I mean ... brought you.
[Joey] I am so glad you brought me! I needed this. Thank you so very much. *smiling at Lizzy as she helps sort lego pieces with Alex and watches Lizzy and Amanda opening the dollhouse, laughing at how the thing is taped in there so that no one can get it out*
[Lizzy] I swear I don't know how they expect children to be able to access these things. *struggling with the tape*
[Amanda] Silly Lizzy, the elves don't want the kids to be able to get into them until the grown ups help. *shaking her head* They're very smart.
[Joey] *giggling* You are right Amanda. *kissing Alex on the head and talking softly to him* I am going to help them, you keep sorting and I will be back to help in a few, smiling when he smiles at her and continues on* Okay let me see this section. I will work on this as you get that. *slowly getting the tape off and handing it to Amanda so she can lift the plastic off and catch the small pieces* I should text Andy, I told him we were going to lunch together. But if I am not home when he gets off he might worry.
[Lizzy] *laughing* Tell him it's Santa day, he'll understand. Oh! And this evening there's a party. Starting around 6:30. The kiddies are here until about 8 and then they all go home and it's an adult party afterward. It's a grand time, we can invite anyone you like. I can't believe I forgot to tell you lot about it. Gosh I've been doing so much this month it just snuck right up on me. *helping Amanda put together her dollhouse and looking at Alex's lego set* That's really cool Alex, do you like it? *at his thumbs up she grins and ruffles his hair*
[Joey] Do you want to invite Luke? I mean if you don't want to you don't have to, but I think he'd like this. *smiling as Alex points at the step 1 on the direction page* Oh, pardon me. My friend is ready to start building.
[Lizzy] Yeah, we can invite Luke. If you don't think it'll come to blows you can invite Evan and his friend too. Whomever you like, Daddy always likes me to have friends at these things, he's afraid I'll get bored. Honestly, I like his friends. *watching her as she builds with Alex* But yes, I do believe I'll invite Luke. Not as a date or anything, just as my friend. We're not having a sporting event, but hopefully he can find it in his heart to still attend.
[Joey] *looking up and smiling* He'll come. He doesn't need a sporting event to have fun. If he was here he'd be pushing me over to you and helping Alex with this part here. *snapping her section into his* Look at us, that is the best team work ever! *smiling as he sets it down and starts step 2*
[Lizzy] *the two play with the kids until about five o'clock* They're going to take the wee one's caroling now while they get set up for the party. They go to all of the apartments in the building, it takes about an hour and a half. The kids love it don't you?
[Amanda] We get cocoa! And Candy Canes!
[Lizzy] Normally I go too, but this year I want to actually look nice for the party. Come on, you want to come play dress up in my room? I've got tons of stuff, surely some will fit you too.
[Joey] *seeing Alex look at her then looking at Lizzy* Well, I can either go with this guy, or he can stay and build while we get dressed up and then he can give us a thumbs up or thumbs down when we are done.
[Lizzy] That's fine. Sometimes Alex stays and helps Elf Rick get the party ready, don't you big guy? *at his grin and nod she smiles again* Ok, you go find Rick, that's a fine Pirate Ship you've built there. Mandy, you ready to go singing? *shooing Amanda off to the group of kids, and then watching Joey who's still keeping an eye on Alex* Hey you, come on. Gran! *calling out to her grandmother* We're going to get dressed.
[Gran] Not without me you're not. *joining them and walking up the stairs* Hello young lady. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you properly. We like to keep the Mrs. Claus thing going for the kids. I'm Miriam, you can call me Gran though, I don't know one of Lizzy's friends who doesn't.
[Joey] *taking her hand and following Lizzy to her room* Nice to meet you Gran. This is just wonderful what you are doing, it makes my heart happy. And those two dolls. They are good kids. You hear stories about how bad kids end up in places like that, but that's just not true is it?
[Gran] *shaking her head* Unfortunately, sometimes it is. When they don't have people to care for them and look out for them. Rick makes sure that the kids in London are well taken care of though, as much as he's able. When they have a clean home, and caring people to look after them, they turn out a lot better. Those two, it's a damn shame, their parents were killed in a car wreck on their way home from the hospital when they were born. They've never knew their parents. Alex, as I'm sure you've figured out, doesn't talk. He can, sometimes he talks to his sister, but he's never spoken to an adult. I don't know what happened in their first few homes, but Mandy won't talk about it, and he just won't talk period. It does my heart good to know they're at St. Mary's now.
[Lizzy] We're hoping they find a home, but they're 7, which means it's likely they never will. People want babies. It's sad really. They're all such good kids.
[Joey] *smiling* Well, then we have to find them a home Lizzy, its as simple at that. Hey I hope you don't mind, I invited daddy. Not sure if he'll come but I told him he should.
[Lizzy] No, that's fine! I love your dad, and I think he'll get along with Daddy really well. *opening up a huge walk in closet* Ok, that wall is all evening dresses for formal events. I haven't worn most of them, but Gran keeps buying them for me, so the closet is stuffed full. *giving her Gran a wry smile* We're about the same size, only you're taller so most of this should fit you, but it'll be a little shorter than it would be on me. Help yourself. *grinning as she starts going through her clothes* Gran, why do you keep buying me red? It's awful with my hair.
[Gran] Every woman needs a good red dress, I keep trying to find one you'll like darling.
[Lizzy] *shaking her head* Here Joey, maybe you'll like this one. *handing her a floor length red satin dress*
[Joey] *taking the red dress and trying it on and looking in the mirror* I guess this one will do. *taking off the cap she added when she decided she no longer wanted to keep her hair up and undressing to try on the dress* I think I like it, what do you think Lizzy? Gran?
[Lizzy] Hmm *thinking and looking Joey over* I like that on you, that's much better than it ever looked on me.
[Gran] I think it's lovely dear. You keep that, Elizabeth is never going to wear it.
[Lizzy] Eew, Gran, don't call me that. And yes, Joey, you keep that, I think it's perfect for you. *smiling and rooting through her closet* Ok, now something for me.
[Joey] *smiling and laughing as she sits down on the bed* Okay girl with a million dresses, what about that one right there? The black one with the ruffle at the bottom.
[Lizzy] *taking out the dress that Joey pointed at* Black? I never had a black dress before. *looking at her grandmother* Gran?
[Gran] You're old enough now for a "little black dress". You needed one. You didn't have one, and obviously your friend likes it.
[Lizzy] Dad's going to hate it, you know he says that I shouldn't be wearing stuff like this.
[Gran] That's because your father still thinks you're eight years old dear. Now, put on the dress and we'll get both of your hair and make up done
[Joey] *putting her hand over her face and laughing at Lizzy* Well things change don't they. *then getting up to brush her hair*
[Lizzy] *changing into the black dress* Shush you. *giggling with Joey, and then blushing at her Gran's raised eyebrow before meeting Joey's eyes and falling into a fit of giggles again. She gets changed into the dress and looks in the mirror* Wow, I look so grown up.
[Gran] *kissing her forehead* Yes you do. Try not to give your father a stroke tonight please.
[Joey] You look beautiful Lizzy. *smiling at her as she puts on some make up and takes a deep breath* Promise me that no matter what happens tonight we will always be friends, because I think I am going to do something super crazy and if it blows up in my face, I will need you to help me pick up the pieces. *giving her friend the "leave it alone" look she picks up the curling iron and adds some curls to Lizzy's hair*
[Lizzy] *waving to her gran as she leaves the room to change herself* What, what what what what what??? Spill! I told you mine!
[Joey] *smiling wickedly* I can't tell you. Because its a surprise. I need to talk to daddy first.
[Lizzy] *throwing a hair scrunchie at Joey* You are positively evil.
[Joey] *laughing* I've been called worse. *adding finishing touches on Lizzy's hair and then turning to check herself in the mirror* We look amazing! So, should we go back down there? Or do we need to do anything else before we go show off out hot looks?
[Lizzy] Um, no I think we're good *looking at her watch* looks like it's almost time too. Let's go. *smiling at her reflection* Thanks for doing my hair. Yours is perfect, as usual. Lucky.
[Joey] *smiling as she takes a deep breath and follows her out of the room, heading back downstairs and watching for Alex. seeing him and smiling as he gives them a double thumbs up* Looks like my little buddy approves. *turning to smile at Rick as he sees his daughter* She looks beautiful right?
[Rick] *staring at Lizzy, dumbfounded* When ... when did you get that dress? I mean ... yes, you look beautiful sweetie. But, when did you get that dress?
[Lizzy] *spinning in the dress and smiling at her dad* Gran got it for me, isn't it fab?
[Rick] Yeah, fab. Sure. *to Joey* you look beautiful too. *turning around and looking for his mom, wandering away still in shock* MOTHER!
[Joey] I told you, it was perfect. *giggling* So, do we need to help them do anything?
[Lizzy] *looking around and seeing the catering staff setting up tables and laying out a dance floor in the dining room after pushing all of the furniture out of the way* Nope, looks like they've got it. Oh, I know, we can go pick music! *pointing to the stereo* That's always fun!
[Joey] *setting up the perfect party mix with Lizzy helped pass the time, when they finished arranging everything she looked around and saw a few new people* Look guests are coming. I haven't heard from the guys, I hope they can come. *hearing her cell phone and laughing* It's daddy. *walking into the hallway she tells her dad the directions and then hangs up and goes back to Lizzy* Daddy is coming. He's on his way now.
[Lizzy] Brilliant! *looking as the door opens* Oh, here are the kids coming back too. Alex, go get your sister. *watching as he scampers off* Such good kids they are. *hearing her phone she pulls it out of the little hidden pocket in her dress* Gran makes sure all of my dresses have pockets. I think yours is behind the bow. Sorry, I forgot to tell you *giggling* Oh. It's Luke. He and Andy are on their way. *self consciously touching her hair* Maybe I should go change? Is this too short? I have a pretty green one that might work...
[Joey] If you change it I will be mad, leave it alone. You look amazing. *shaking her head* Besides, I know someone who will really like it. *giggling as she peeks around looking for Alex and Amanda* Where did those two run off to?
[Lizzy] Ok I'll leave it. *pointing to the corner* They're over there playing with Daddy's train. *seeing the two children laughing and sucking on candy canes* They're having a grand time. I always feel bad when it's time for them to leave. They have a good place, but it's still not a home.
[Joey] I feel like I need to find them a home, I want daddy to meet them. Maybe he will open his heart to them, if not, well I will have to get married and take them in. *seeing the shock in her face and then hearing her dad's voice, running off to introduce him to Rick, Santa, and Mrs. Claus. before bringing him over to meet the twins she had fallen in love with*
[Alec] *meeting everyone and then smiling as Joey introduced him to the twins* Hi there, well aren't you a cute pair. *hugging Joey* Hey princess, I can't stay long, but I wanted to come for a few minutes.
[Lizzy] *standing watching the party and swaying in place when she feels an arm around her shoulder* Hey Daddy. It's good this year. And Joey wants her dad to adopt Alex and Amanda, isn't that amazing?
[Rick] It is, you've got good taste in friends little girl. *looking down at her* I guess I can't call you that anymore, you're all grown up now. *looking at her a little sadly*
[Lizzy] Aw Daddy, I'll always be your little girl *hugging him* No matter what. Hey *looking around the party* Is Kelly coming this year?
[Rick] Don't know, she never said yes or no. If she is she's bringing her *making a face* boyfriend.
[Lizzy] *laughing* You two have so many issues. *kissing his cheek* I'm gonna go say hi to Alec, have fun ok. If Kelly comes track me down so I can say hi. *running off to the corner where Alec and Joey are talking* Hi! *hugging Alec* I'm so happy you could come, how are you?
[Alec] *hugging her and kissing her on the top of the head* Thanks for inviting me. You both look beautiful. I might have to stay and beat off the boys with a stick. *winking* Joey was telling me about how your dad does all this every year. *seeing Joey open her mouth* A few times a year I mean. I need to talk to him and see if there is anything I can do to help. *looking around* Your dad is the elf right? *smiling* Okay, I will go talk to him. *kissing Joey's cheek, taking a step back* I will be back in a few.
[Joey] *watching her dad walk away she crosses her arms and pouts* He makes me so angry! He said no, no to taking the twins. What the hell is wrong with him?
[Lizzy] Well, it's a big responsibility. And his kids are already almost grown, so it makes sense he wouldn't want to take that on too. *frowning and hugging Joey* I'm sorry, I know you really wanted him to. We'll find them a good place. That will be our mission this year, by next Christmas Alex and Amanda will have a loving home and family.
[Joey] He said that with Tyler and Jonnie having Ty and a new baby on the way this wasn't the time. But that he'd help me find a family. *still pouting* I guess that's something. *looking over and seeing their dad's talking and laughing* Looks like they are getting along just fine. If he starts going to the pub every night they will be the best of friends. *trying hard to be mad but smiling as the two men laugh together*
[Lizzy] That would be amazing, Dad needs some friends. All he has are the other writers he hangs around with, and they're all super busy. *seeing the door open and Andy walk in, Lucas right behind him* Hey the guys are here. *waving and shouting* Andy! Over here!
[Joey] *seeing Andy she smiles and then motions for Luke, but then laughs as her dad spots him and calls him over there* Looks like your dad is going to meet your friend. You gonna go save him? *covering her mouth to stop laughing*
[Lizzy] Oh lord. *going pale, and grabbing Joey's hand* Come on you. *dragging Joey over to the guys just as they meet her dad* Hi! *catching her breath* Daddy, you remember Andy, this is my friend Luke. Ok, who wants eggnog?
[Andy] *chuckling* What's your rush Lizzy?
[Lizzy] Shut it.
[Rick] Lizzy! *shaking Luke's hand* Hi there Luke, I'm Rick. It's nice to meet you. Any particular reason my daughter is trying to hide you from me?
[Lizzy] NO! I just ... he really likes eggnog. That's all *letting her lame explanation hang in the air*
[Alec] He's like my son. *putting his arm around Lucas as they look at Lizzy, confused at her behavior*
[Lucas] I was having some personal issues and Lizzy has been so sweet, she's become one of my best friends. I have no idea why she is being so silly. *looking at her and smiling softly* You look very pretty Liz. *turning back to Rick, to continue the conversation they started before Lizzy came over* So yes I play on the Ravens. The California based team.
[Joey] *looking at Lizzy and laughing at her nervousness* Come on, let them talk. *walking her away from their fathers* Luke hates eggnog, so don't bring him any. He will be grossed out. *turning to Andy and giving him a little kiss* Hey sweetie.
[Andy] *hugging her tightly* Hey there beautiful. Having fun?
[Lizzy] *blushing madly* Ok, no eggnog for him. Oh my god I'm such a spaz. Why did I think it was a good idea to have him in the same room with my father again?
[Joey] *laughing* Because he's cute? You know that while you are sitting here all nervous, you are still looking at him and thinking how great it will be to go home with him tonight. *taking Andy's hand as she looks away from Lizzy* Andy, will you do me a favor?
[Andy] *stroking her hand with his thumb* Anything Blondie, you just name it.
[Joey] *smiling at him and looking in his eyes* Marry me?
[Andy] I'm sorry what?
[Lizzy] Andy! That is not the proper response. Joey, are you completely mad? I thought you were joking!
[Andy] *staring at Joey, ignoring Lizzy completely* Did you just say what I think you said?
[Joey] Marry me. That is what I said. You know, chapel, a few friends, I do's and all that.
[Andy] Sure thing, come on let's go. *standing up laughing and then looking at her* Holy shit. You're serious aren't you? *sitting back down and looking at her, smiling gently* You know I love you Joey, but you're not ready to be married. What spurred this? Is it Luke and Lizzy? Cause really, I'm not worried, I'll wait for as long as it takes for you to be ready.
[Joey] *biting her lip and shaking her head no* It's him, well them. *pointing out Alex and Amanda* I can't stand the thought of them not having parents to love them. He is the sweetest guy, and she is so smart. I thought if I was married I could get them and give them a better life. *looking down* I know what it's like to not have a perfect childhood. I can't knowingly do that to someone who deserves better.
[Lizzy] I'm just gonna let you two talk now. *standing up and hugging them both before walking over to the snacks and munching*
[Andy] Joe. *shaking his head and looking at her* They're cute. I know them, they're great kids, and you're right they deserve a good home. But do you really think I'm the best person in the world for that? I mean, you're going to be an amazing mother one day. I'm sure of that. But I wouldn't know what to do with kids.
[Joey] I just, well, you were good with your sister. You are patient with me. I think it's the same idea, only smaller people with smaller problems. *looking at the kids playing together* Their parents died, they never asked to be in this spot. It's just not fair and I want them. I want to show them there is good in the world.
[Lizzy] *taking both of her hands in his and looking into her eyes* Joey. I want to do anything for you, really. And the kids are amazing, you're right, they deserve a lot better than they've had. But, I mean ... *pausing and closing his eyes* God I don't want you to hate me, but I can't with good conscience say yes to this. I'm not ready to raise kids. I barely figured out how to love someone again. You're not ready to be married. We're just finding our way. If I had to raise a kid right now they'd end up ten shades of screwed up.
[Joey] *nodding her head and looking him with tears in her eyes, standing up and kissing him before walking over and hugging her dad* Daddy I want to go. *feeling his arms tighten around her as he walks her into another room.
[Lucas] *excusing himself from the conversation and walking over to Lizzy and smiling at her* What was that about? *looking at Andy and seeing him sitting there just miserable* Man, maybe I don't want to know. *smiling at her* How was your day?
[Lizzy] *tucking a strand of hair behind her ear and smiling shyly* It was good, I brought Joey here after lunch and we got pictures with Santa. *pausing, unable to think suddenly* How was practice?
[Lucas] It was fun, I took Carrie with me. She is odd but nice. She got up and shot some hoops with the team. We made her an honorary member for the day. *laughing* I am glad you and Joey are okay. She was pretty upset last night. I think she thought you two weren't friends anymore. *looking around and making sure no one could hear him* As amazing as you look in that dress, I know for a fact you look even better underneath it. Come over tonight okay? *standing up straight and fixing a plate of snacks* Should we go over to talk to Andy?
[Lizzy] I'm glad you had fun with Carrie, she's very ... nice. Pretty too. *smiling at him* I'll definitely come over tonight. *looking at Andy* Yeah, let's go see to him, I think Joey has put him into shock. *walking with Luke over to Andy* Everything ok?
[Andy] No. I just fucked everything up. But I couldn't say yes to that? Raising kids? No, I am not ready to be anyone's dad.
[Lucas] I thought she wasn't having sex? You knocked her up? Andy!
[Andy] *staring at Lucas* Are you completely insane? The woman can't even look at me with my shirt off, of course I didn't. *pointing at the twins* She wants to marry me and adopt those two. *looking at Lizzy* What do I do with that?
[Lizzy] I have no idea mate. I knew she liked the kids, but I never imagined she was serious when she said she'd just get married and adopt them herself.
[Lucas] *color slowly returning to his face* Sorry, I didn't mean to jump the gun, but I had no idea why you would be mentioning kids with her. *looking back towards the room Joey and Alec had disappeared into* So that is why she was crying? Andy, I am gonna tell you this, please don't take offense. Had you given in and married her, I would've had to kick your rump. Not because I don't like you, but because she isn't ready. You did the right thing. *looking at Lizzy* Joey thinks she can save the world, she just doesn't realize how wrong her sense of reality is. *shaking his head* Poor kid, I should probably go check on them.
[Lizzy] No, let her talk to her dad. I'm sure he knows how to handle this. *taking his hand and then letting go again and clasping her hands in her lap*
[Andy] No worries mate, you're just looking out for her. She's going to hate me now. But you're right, that's just what I told her, she's not ready and honestly neither am I? But how do you tell someone you love them but you're not ready to be married yet? *sighing and then looking out at the party* Did he rent a bloody snow machine this year? Your dad is off his rocker.
[Lizzy] You know he always has to outdo himself. I don't know what he's going to do next year. But no changing the subject.
[Lucas] *smiling and then taking her hand back in his* It's not like they don't know. You can hold it if you want. *turning to Andy* As far as Joey, don't worry. If she is mad, she will come around. I've never seen her stay too mad, too long. She loves you in her own little way and that is what counts.
[Alec] *hugging Joey and going back to talk to Rick*
[Joey] *coming back over to the group face all lit up as she falls on Andy's lap* Thank you for saying no. I can't believe I asked you that. I will never make you feel that bad again, I know you didn't want to tell me no, you had to. *leaning closer but afraid to kiss him for fear he was mad at her*
[Lucas] *shaking his head at her* Like I said!
[Andy] *pulling her close and holding her, kissing her gently* I'm sorry. I really am sorry. You don't know how much I wish I was ready to say yes to you.
[Lizzy] *smiling at Andy and Joey and then looking at Luke's hand in hers, releasing it gently* That's fine. I don't want people to think this is more than it is. Can't have daddy and gran thinking your my boyfriend can we? *taking a drink of her soda and looking out into the room trying to maintain her smile*
[Joey] I need to be told no sometimes because that simple no will change alot of lives. *bouncing on his lap* Daddy's co-worker and his wife have been trying for years to have children, had all but given up. He just made a few calls and they will be meeting tomorrow and with luck they will be in their new home by Christmas. And the best part, I get to be the babysitter and Aunt Joey. *smiling innocently at Andy* Thank you for telling me no. You made magic happen with those two little letters. *leaning in and kissing him passionately*
[Lucas] *frowning* I wouldn't hate it if you liked me that way. I know you are set on us being just friends who, well you know. But, if you ever did like me more it would be pretty cool.
[Andy] *smiling and kissing her back before standing in front of her and bowing slightly* May I have this dance my sweet? *extending a hand to her and grinning when she takes it and joins him on the dance floor*
[Lizzy] I don't ... I mean I wouldn't ... *blushing* I just thought it wasn't like that. Besides, Carrie likes you, don't you want to be there? She's all athletic and stuff.
[Lucas] I am not opposed to seeing where it goes with you, we are together all the time anyways. But, we did say this was strictly friendship and fun. So maybe its not meant to be. But, I don't think I like Carrie like that. She is sweet and kinda pretty. But, I dunno.
[Lizzy] *looking up at him, smiling slightly* I think that might be nice. *she starts speaking very quickly* But don't feel like you have to, I mean I'm fine just leaving things the way they are, please don't think I'm trying to put pressure on your or anything, I'm just saying that it might be nice to see where things go. But I know what we said, and if you're not ready for that that's fine with me. I mean I think I like you, well I know I like you, but I think I like Like you, and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do there because I promised myself and you that I wouldn't and *cutting herself off and just looking at the ground feeling like a complete fool*
[Lucas] * smiling as he leans forward and kisses her forehead* I can't promise that I will be the best choice, but I am a good choice. Its up to you because I feel like I already promised I'd be around til you no longer needed me. If you need me as more than what I am now, tell me. We don't have to hide because Joey knows, and well I told Nate a long time ago. Cause he was trying to hook me up with girls in Cali and I wasn't having any part of it. But, that's neither here nor there. *smiling* Your dad does seem to like me.
[Lizzy] *quietly* I don't want to because you feel obligated. If we're going to do this I want it to be because you want to be with me, not because of some promise we made in the middle of ... what we were doing.
[Lucas] *smiling* Lizzy will you be my girlfriend? I want to be your boyfriend. Hell I feel like we have been a couple this whole time anyways. So its not because I feel obligated. I just need you to not dump me when Tyler comes back and you feel guilty. Other then that I think we will be just fine.
[Joey] *spinning out of his hand and scooping up Alex dancing with him and smiling as Andy grabs Mandy and twirls her out on the dance floor, making her feel like the little princess she is. feeling the tears in her eyes when Alex lets out a little laugh and kisses her*
[Lizzy] *looking up at him* Really? *jumping up and squealing, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him* Yes, absolutely! *sitting down on his lap and hugging him, kissing him again, only pulling away when she hears the someone clearing his throat* Oh. Daddy. *beaming at him* Since things have changed, let me introduce you again. I'd like you to meet my boyfriend, Lucas. Be nice ok?
[Rick] I knew that dress was a bad idea. *shaking his head and then extending a hand to shake with Luke* Be nice to my baby girl, she always carries pepper spray.
[Gran] Oh Richard, lighten up. *smiling at Lizzy and Luke* Congratulations darling. *taking Rick by the arm* Come along, leave the children alone.
[Lucas] I liked her before she ever put on this dress. It's not the outer appearance I care about. It's because you raised her to be beautiful on the inside. *smiling at Rick and Gran, then down at Lizzy*
[Rick] I guess that's good enough for me. But don't forget. Pepper spray. *being pulled away by his mom* I'm watching you.
[Lizzy] *shaking her head and laughing* Don't mind him, he thinks he's funny.
[Lucas] I don't mind him watching me. I know how to behave in public. *whispering in her ear* I know how to behave in private too. *spinning her around and kissing her* Joey's right, simple words can make magic happen. Let's go dance with them. They look like they are having a blast. *pulling her out on the dance floor and smiling*
